A large pond on a private property near Bury St Edmunds required a full dredge and refurbishment.
The team transported the company’s 4-inch industrial road-tow diesel pump to the site. Access was gained along the edge of a local farmer’s field and then beside the client’s hedge to the pond. The pump, pipes and associated equipment were set up, and the pond was pumped down, with the water discharged into a ditch on the property.
Our specialised wide steel-tracked excavator and a 9-tonne dumper were transported to the site using the same access route. A specialised 22-tonne long-reach excavator was also delivered, offloaded near the roadside and tracked to the client’s meadow. Once it was in position, we created a bund to contain the silt, reeds and debris during the drying process.
The long-reach excavator was then repositioned on the bank beside the pond, and excavation of the silt, reeds and debris began. The excavator loaded the dumper, which transported the spoil to the designated bunded area and tipped it into the containment area.
Once the long-reach excavator had reached the limit of its jib, the team created a temporary ramp into the pond for the smaller excavator. The smaller machine removed the remaining silt and debris, pushing the material towards the long-reach excavator so that the dredging process could continue.
Reeds were removed from the bank nearest the house. The smaller excavator then exited the pond, the temporary ramp was removed and all banks were regraded. Topsoil was transported to the site and hand-raked across the work area.
With the dredging complete, the team turned its attention to constructing a new jetty. Oak posts, timber and non-slip decking boards were supplied and transported to the site. The oak posts were positioned precisely and secured in the ground with the excavator. A timber frame was then assembled and attached to the upright posts before the non-slip decking boards were fixed to the framework.
While on site, the team located a well on the customer’s property. The client decided to have a well pump fitted, which we supplied and installed.
At the end of the project, all machinery was removed from the site and the immediate work area was left as neat and tidy as possible.
