POND AND GARDEN RENOVATION IN NORFOLK
Comprehensive Restoration of a Neglected Outdoor Space near Hunstanton
This document details the renovation of a neglected pond and a portion of the garden on the north Norfolk coast, not far from Hunstanton. The project aimed to restore aesthetic appeal, improve functionality, and leave the site in a clean and tidy condition.
Access to the property was granted through double wooden gates, allowing the team to bring in necessary equipment. The machinery included a 5-ton excavator, a diesel submersible pump, chainsaws, pole saws, and various hand tools. The excavator was carefully tracked into position on the pond bank to commence operations.
Using the diesel submersible pump, the pond was drained with the water redirected onto the garden area by the boundary. Before dredging could begin, the surrounding landscape required attention. The team utilised chainsaws, pole saws, and hand tools to remove a hedge running alongside the property boundary fence next to the road.
An area was designated and cleared for a bonfire, ensuring the safe disposal of hedge material. Further, brambles and other vegetation were cleared from the area around the pond and a holly tree, and all green waste was burnt on the bonfire.
In preparation for dredging, the team created a crater specifically designed to contain the silt removed from the pond. The 5-ton excavator was then used to dredge the pond, removing silt, weeds, and other debris, which were deposited into the prepared crater.
With the dredging complete, the banks of the pond were reshaped to enhance its visual appeal and integrate it better with the rest of the garden. The crater containing the dredged material was covered and levelled, as was the broader garden area, to achieve a neat finish.
Upon completion of all renovation activities, the machinery and equipment were collected. The site was left in as clean and tidy a condition as possible, restoring the pond and garden to a state that the property owners could be proud of.
