ORNAMENTAL POND LINER REPLACEMENT
Project Report: Newmarket Pond Restoration
The team’s most recent assignment was located on the outskirts of Newmarket, where urgent attention was required for an ornamental pond that had developed a significant leak. The client, understandably concerned for their mature koi, reached out with a request for immediate assistance to ensure the continued welfare of their prized fish.
Upon arrival, the team conducted a thorough on-site inspection and quickly identified a failure in the pond liner as the source of the leak. Recognising the urgency and with the safety of the koi as the utmost priority, the team transported an inflatable pond equipped with oxygenating equipment to the location.
The holding tanks were set up using water from the existing pond to minimise stress and maintain a stable environment for the fish. Each koi was carefully netted and transferred into the tanks with the greatest care and attention.
A submersible pump was employed to drain the pond of all remaining water. The compromised liner was then removed and responsibly disposed of off-site at a certified facility, ensuring compliance with environmental best practices.
A high-quality underlay was supplied and installed to provide a stable base for the new liner. The filtration system underwent a comprehensive inspection, with any necessary repairs and replacement of pipework completed to guarantee optimal water quality for the koi.
A new E.P.D.M. (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) liner was fitted, and the team began to refill the pond, introducing a dechlorinating solution to safeguard the health of the fish. Throughout the process, the liner was meticulously adjusted to eliminate wrinkles and ensure a smooth, secure fit.
Once satisfied with the installation, the team securely fixed the underlay and liner in place.
New paving slabs, hand-picked by the client, were supplied and expertly installed around the pond’s perimeter, cemented securely for both aesthetics and safety. The koi were then carefully reintroduced to their refreshed habitat.
After allowing the cement to cure and the paving to set, the team completed the pond refilling using water from the holding tanks, ensuring a gentle transition for the fish.
To complete the landscaping, topsoil and grass seed were supplied, spread, and raked around the pond’s edge for a tidy finish. A pond net was installed to provide ongoing safety and security for the fish against potential predators.
All equipment was removed from the site, and the area was left in an immaculate condition, demonstrating the team’s commitment to professionalism and client satisfaction. The client’s koi now enjoy a safe, secure, and beautifully restored pond environment.
