LAKE RESTORATION IN SUFFOLK

LAKE RESTORATION IN SUFFOLK.

Restoring a small lake and infilling a pond.

The team went north of Ipswich for their latest project.

The lake had been unattended for some time and the clients wanted it restored to its former glory.

Unlike a normal dredge and desilt the client did not want too much disruption due to the wildlife that was present.

On arrival we began lowering the water level using our towable industrial pump.

Once the bullrush roots were visible we stopped pumping the water out.

The next task was to face back the overgrown, neglected trees and shrubs.

Using chainsaws, pole saws and hedge cutters the team were able to remove overhanging branches. Shrubs and brambles were also removed which made the area more appealing on the eye.

With the banks now neat and tidy we could manoeuvre the machinery into position.

The eight-ton long reach excavator could now be used to remove the bullrush roots, silt and debris. This was loaded into a nine-ton dumper to be tipped into the designated area chosen by the client.

Once all the reeds, silt and debris had been removed some of the banks were reshaped with a gradual slope.

Oxygenating weed was then removed from the surface of the lake using manual techniques and disposed of.

Infill of pond

Our team then turned their attention to the pond infill.

By using a smaller pump, they were able to drain the pond and then using a smaller excavator they cleared the area of silt and debris.

Concrete was excavated from in front of the cottage and tipped into the pond.

Sixty tons of extra hardcore was then transported to site and used to infill the pond.

We achieved this by loading the hardcore into the dumper and tipping into the pond and then using the excavator to position and compact the hardcore.

Forty tons of topsoil was then transported to site, spread and levelled over the whole area.

When the machinery had been collected and transported from site, the team made the site as clean and tidy as possible.

Not only were the clients very hospitable whilst we were on site, they were very pleased with the outcome of the project.
