R & M Pond Services Limited was contracted by West Suffolk Council to carry out the refurbishment of a balancing pond. The pond in Cleves Road Haverhill Suffolk.
A balancing pond was totally overgrown with trees, bushes and brambles.
Initially we began by felling the trees in the centre of the balancing pond. We logged the larger trunks. Smaller branches were put through our mechanical chipper, which were going to be spread on the pathways when they were finished.
Using the services of both Emmitt Plant & Mervyn Lambert Plant we had two 14 ton excavators and a mechanical flail transported to site.
As the brambles and bushes were matted into the overgrown grass on the banks, hedge cutters and strimmer’s could not cut through. We overcame the problem by using a mechanical flail fitted to a 14 ton excavator to clear the whole area. Rubbish and litter was also collected and disposed of.
An overgrown culvert was then cleared and once again usable.
Tree roots had to be excavated from the pond bottom using a 14 ton excavator and then disposed of.
The pond bottom was then de-silted and totally cleared keeping the good soil for the creation of the bank.
Using two 14 ton excavators and soil from the pond the banks had to be built up and graded, the banks were then reshaped and ready for grass seeding.
All of the footpaths had to be cleared. This was achieved by using the excavator to scrap off the grass and soil until we got back to the original base. Trees and bushes were faced back to make the footpaths wider.
Our hired in plant was then collected and the site was left in as clean and tidy a condition as possible.
